Machining of seal grooves in ANI mill Trunnion
The challenge was to develop equipment and carry out accurate and timely machining of seal grooves to rectify worn sealing surfaces.
To carry out this process in situ with only a low inching drive rotation speed the most efficient process was to mill the grooves utilising specially manufactured milling heads driven with hydraulic power units to simultaneously machine the worn grooves at each end of the mill.
This work was carried out by four personnel in seven consecutive shifts including set-up time. The process allowed the installation of specially manufactured replacement seal rings.
